No Coal Alliance Meeting
June 17 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Our next meeting is Monday, June 17, 6 pm, at the Bobby Bowen Progressive Center, 2540 MacDonald Avenue, Richmond.
Former Appalachian coal miner Nick Mullins has been invited to speak to us!
My name is Nick Mullins and I am coming to your area as part of a public outreach tour my family and I are embarking on. I am a former Appalachian coal miner now working on just energy transition advocacy and environmental issues, specifically working to promote sustainable living practices and to help organizations develop better communication strategies that bridge intense political and cultural divides. It’s a bit of a story, but during the summers we try to travel the US by car, camping along the way (to cut travel costs), and connecting with groups and organizations doing similar work. It is a wonderful way of learning and sharing to build a larger community.
I am reaching out to see if we could connect and, to see if you would know of any event spaces with a projection screen in the area? One of the ways I do outreach is by giving presentations and providing workshops. This year my focus is “Putting the ‘Just’ in a Just Energy Transition” (for more info check out www.breakclean.com/tour). Briefly, I use some of my own background along with my experiences in various forms of justice activism to open up dialogue about what a truly “just” transition means, as well as discussing communications strategies that find common ground on divisive issues.
We hope to be in your area by June 17th and 18th. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Attendees are encouraged to bring snacks to share, and a small donation to support the meeting space.
The Oakland presentation is co-sponsored by No Coal in Oakland, the California Nurses Association, West Oakland Environmental Indicators Project (WOEIP), Sunflower Alliance, No Coal in Richmond, Bay Area System Change not Climate Change, the No Coal Alliance, East Bay Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) Climate and Environmental Justice Caucus.
