No Coal at the Council
February 4 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
As some of you have noted, a second reading the coal ordinance is on the consent calendar at the Richmond City Council (a formality required by city law), and we’ve heard the item will be removed from the calendar for further discussion by the pro-coal people.
WHAT: No Coal at the CouncilWHEN: 6 pm or earlierWHERE: Richmond City Council Chambers, 440 Civic Center Plaza, Richmond
What does this mean? In terms of the final outcome, most likely nothing: although Ben Choi will be absent, we still have four votes, and it seems unlikely that any new information could emerge that would change any of them.
But we need you to show up in your red shirt. Once again, arrive early and bring something to read and earplugs. There’s only one regular agenda item, but it’s a highly contentious charter school item, so the place will be packed with parents and kids. Upside: they’ll have pizza, and it’s not politically incorrect to help yourself to a slice. And who knows, all those union dudes may be there too.
I get that many of you are ready to move on, but before we pop the champagne corks we need to get over the final hurdle in this stage of our struggle.
Thanks so much for all your support!
